The population of Delaware is 989,948, which was last officially recorded in the 2020 census. It is the second-smallest U.S. state, after Rhode Island. 

There are only 3 counties in Delaware: New Castle County, Sussex County, and Kent County. This is the lowest number of all 50 U.S. states. The largest city is Wilmington, and the state capital is Dover.
