The Indiana State Department of Health - Division of Vital Records's Office is the central office for the state of Indiana and it issues certified copies of Marion birth certificates, Marion death certificates and Marion marriage records for events that occurred in Marion. You may order copies of Indiana vital records through this office or, in some cases, the office of the county clerk where the deed happened.

Indiana became the 19th state in the United States on December 11, 1816. It is located in the Midwestern United States, with a total area of 36,418 square miles (94,321 square kilometers). It is bordered by Lake Michigan to the northwest, Michigan to the north, Ohio to the east, the Ohio River and Kentucky to the south and southeast, and the Wabash River and Illinois to the west.

Vital records in Indiana are held at the Indiana State Department of Health. Birth and death records have been kept since October 1907.

To avoid delays with your birth record application, you are advised to ensure that you complete your application correctly. Any mistakes or missing information could result in a rejected request.

A certified copy of a birth record in Indiana is $10. The payment can be done by check or money order, payable to the Indian Department of Health.
For additional copies of the same birth certificate, there is a $4 charge per document.
Please note that once you have submitted your application, the fee is non-refundable.

You must have a completed application form and a document proving your identity to be eligible for a copy of a vital record.
Acceptable form of ID include:
- Driver’s license
- State ID
- Military ID
- Passport
- School ID
- Work ID
If you do not have one of the primary forms of ID, you may show 2 secondary IDs. These include:
- Verification of employment
- Voter registration
- Current vehicle registration
- Previous year’s tax return
- Signed mortgage
