Maine (ME) Vital Records

The Division of Data, Research, and Vital Statistics in Maine processes vital record applications within 2-5 weeks.

The cost of a birth record copy in Maine depends on the service you request. The pricing is as follows:

• First certified copy: $15

• Additional copy: $6

• Non-certified copy: $10

Non-certified copies of a birth certificate are stamped with “not for legal purposes”. 

Mail orders can be paid by check or money order. Online payments can be paid with all major credit cards.

The document requirements for a copy of a birth certificate in Maine state that you must have the relevant completed form, and photo ID.

Acceptable forms of identification are:

• Driver’s license

• Passport

• Government-issued ID

If you do not have 1 of the documents listed above, you may show 2 forms of alternative ID. These include:

• Utility bill

• Bank statement

• Car registration

• Copy of an income tax return

• Personal check with address
