Vitals records are held at Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Augusta. The state office houses birth, death, marriage, and divorce records for vital events that have occurred since 1923. Records from 1892-1922 are housed at the Maine State Archives.

The cost of a birth record copy in Maine depends on the service you request. The pricing is as follows:
- First certified copy: $15
- Additional copy: $6
- Non-certified copy: $10
Non-certified copies of a birth certificate are stamped with “not for legal purposes”.
Mail orders can be paid by check or money order. Online payments can be paid with all major credit cards.
The document requirements for a copy of a birth certificate in Maine state that you must have the relevant completed form, and photo ID.
Acceptable forms of identification are:
