Vital records for Montana are maintained by the Office of Vital Statistics, MT Department of Public Health and Human Services. The division has both birth and death records starting from 1907, and some indexes to locate marriage licenses and divorce decrees starting from July 1943.

The processing time for a birth certificate application in the state of Montana will last 2 to 4 weeks.

Anyone interested in a copy of a birth record must pay a 12-dollar processing fee for a copy of their birth certificate in Montana.
If your application is submitted without payment, then it will likely be refused, causing long delays.
For any additional copy of a Montana birth certificate, the fixed charge will be an extra $5.
Personal checks, as well as money orders, can be made payable to Montana Vital Records.
All individuals that apply for a copy of a birth certificate in Montana must provide a photocopy of a legitimate form of identification along with the application.
You must submit a photocopy of each side of one of the following forms of photo ID:
- State driver’s license
- State photo ID
- Government-issued photo identification
