You can expect the process to receive an official, legally valid copy of a New Mexico birth certificate to last between 3 and 5 weeks. 

By including all the necessary documentation, you can avoid longer processing times and receive your certificate as scheduled. 

You can save time when applying for a copy of your birth certificate by using our online Vital Records office database to find the correct location to receive your document.

To apply for a copy of your birth certificate, or that of an immediate family member, you will need to pay a processing fee. 

The fee to apply for a new copy of a birth certificate in New Mexico is $10. The payment may be carried out either by personal check or money order. 

In both cases, the check or money order should be made out to NM Vital Records.

To properly submit a copy of a New Mexico birth certificate, you will need to present a valid form of identification. 

There are various documents that you may submit to prove your identity and age. However, we recommend that you submit a photocopy of one of the following official forms of ID:

• Government-issued Driver’s license

• Government-issued ID card

• Government-issued Passport

• Valid Government Issued Mexican Matricula card

• Government Issued Military ID

• Foreign passport with visa and I-94 form 

If you are an immediate family member, you must show proof of your relationship to the immediate family member on the birth certificate.
