You must pay a fee to receive your birth certificate in Rhode Island. It’s important to include the payment with your application or your application will take more time. 

For the first copy of a certificate that you order, you must pay 20 dollars. 

For additional copies of the birth certificate made at the same time, a $15 fee will be added for each extra copy. 

Personal checks or money orders must be made payable to the General Treasurer, State of Rhode Island.

To properly submit a copy of a Rhode Island birth certificate, you will need to present a valid form of identification. 

There are various documents that you may submit to prove your identity and age. However, we recommend that you submit a photocopy of one of the following official forms of ID: 

• Driver’s license

• Photo ID card

• Government-issued United States Passport

• Government Issued Military ID

• Alien registration card

If you are an immediate family member or have another valid relationship that gives you access to the document, you must show proof of your connection to the individual named on the birth certificate.
