Copies of Texas birth records can only be solicited by the person on the certificate or by an immediate family member such as a grandparent, spouse, or adult child.  

It will take 6-8 weeks for your birth certificate application to be processed in the state of Texas.

Your application could be delayed or even canceled if it does not include the correct documentation or payment. 

It is also possible to save time by visiting our online Vital Records office database to find the office nearest you.

For an official copy of a Texas birth certificate, 22 dollars must be made payable to the Texas Vital Records Department of State Health Services via personal check or money order. 

Additional copies requested of the birth certificate will also come with a 22-dollar fee. 

If you choose a rush service, you will also need to pay an additional amount of $5. 

If you do not provide the accurate amount will result in delays or the cancellation of your birth certificate request.

Texas birth certificate applications must be notarized by a notary public before being sent in. 

In addition to the notary’s signature, a valid form of identification is also required with your birth certificate application. Only certain forms of ID will be accepted. 

You may submit a photocopy of one of the photo IDs below along with your application for a Texas birth certificate:

• Driver’s license

• State ID card

• U.S. or foreign passport 

• Military ID card

• Green card

• Employment Authorization Document(EAD)

• Concealed handgun license

• Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship

It’s also possible to submit a photocopy of any two of the following forms of ID: 

• Birth certificate

• Medical insurance card

• Veterans Affairs card

• Student ID card

• Form I-94 with current visa

• Foreign photo ID 

• Signed social security card

• Company/Work ID

Whichever form of ID you choose should not be expired.
