Copies of Virginia birth records can only be solicited by the individual named on the certificate or by an immediate family member of the subject of the certificate. 

A grandparent, spouse, or adult child are examples of immediate family members. 

The processing time in Virginia lasts between 8 and 10 weeks.

You are obligated to pay a fixed fee if you wish to order a copy of a Virginia birth certificate. 

The fee in Virginia is set at an initial price of $12 for a copy of the vital record.

If you plan on ordering any more copies of a birth certificate at the same time, you will need to provide an added $12 for each additional copy. 

A check or money order are the forms of payment that you can choose to send. The method of payment of your choice must be remitted to the State Health Department.
